EDITORIAL - OUT OF THE RUBBLE SPROUT THE SEEDS OF REVIVAL!
INTRODUCTION
During a recent lunch with some long time friends, the occasion of the
APOSTLE PAUL'S ministry in ATHENS became the topic of conversation.
Despite the fact that Paul's preaching on MAR'S HILL is a tremendous
example to us of meeting people where they are at and then taking them to
Christ, one of my friends pointed out that of all the cities that Paul
visited, Athens was perhaps the only one where there was no church
planted as a result of his ministry there.
PAUL'S MISTAKE
Most of Paul's epistles are to churches in cities where he initially
preached, people responded, elders were appointed and as a result, a
church began to grow. But where is the "Epistle to the Athenians"? After
all, it was the second most significant city in the world at that time
besides ROME, and we do have an epistle to the Romans. It was suggested
that there is no letter to the Athenians because there was no church left
behind. Why? Because of one vital component missing in Paul's visit there
which was present in his visits to the other cities, and that was; he
went to Athens alone! Was this Paul's mistake? We know that JESUS sent
them out "two by two" and that "one puts a thousand to flight, while two
put ten thousand to flight", so if we are going to have any measurable
impact our cities, we obviously can't do it alone!
BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS
The GROUND ZERO CLERGY TASK FORCE, an initiative of the NORTHEAST CLERGY
GROUP, was birthed out of the ashes of 9/11 in NEW YORK CITY. Many
ministries and churches based in lower MANHATTAN responded quickly to the
tragic events of that day, providing food and counsel to the rescue
workers and clothing to the needy. One of the first joint tasks was a
prayer vigil in downtown Manhattan, which drew over 3000 people from 40
different churches. To quote the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHRISTIAN TIMES; "…
When it was over [the initial attack], dozens of shoestring churches and
ministries, operated by the blood, sweat and tears of its knuckle-worn
leadership and volunteers, were faced with helping some of the nation's
most advanced companies deal with the sorrow, loss and overwhelming task
of building anew."
"…dozens of shoestring churches, operated by the blood,
sweat and tears of its knuckle-worn leadership, were
faced with helping some of the nation's most advanced
companies…with the overwhelming task of building anew."
THE SEEDS OF REVIVAL
Six months down the track, "the seeds of revival" that were "buried in
the rubble" of the WORLD TRADE CENTER are beginning to bloom. The
Northeast Clergy Group, under the leadership of REVEREND MARCUS RIVERA
and REVEREND RICHARD DEL RIO, has now expanded to 234 churches,
ministries and coalitions, including the CITY COVENANT COALITION with
whom I closely work as Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council.
Recently, almost 300 ministry leaders gathered at the Grand Ballroom of
the REGENT WALL STREET HOTEL, for a special luncheon sponsored by the
group called "RENEWAL, RESTORATION, REVIVAL". Pastor Marcus Rivera
reports; "We were encouraged by the inspiring words from ANNE GRAHAM LOTZ,
and we were honored by several key elected officials including US SENATOR
JON CORZINE from NEW JERSEY, and NYC MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG. Before
Mayor Bloomberg left, Pastor Rick and I lead a [personal] prayer for
him..."
RENEWAL, RESTORATION AND REVIVAL!
"The Lessons of the last five months have been hard to bear. However, now
we realize that the Lord had prepared us for this event (9/11): were it
not for the Lord moving in the hearts of many to support the Ground Zero
Task Force (GZCTF), we would not have been able to continue our efforts
much beyond the immediate crisis response. What we have experienced, and
what we are committed to, is the mission to revive our communities
spiritually, physically and economically, in the aftermath of the World
Trade Center Disaster… The GZCTF represents a range of denominational and
ethnic affiliations of all types. This rapid development is but one
manifestation of a new spirit of unity that has gripped the hearts and
minds of ministry leaders all over the [Greater New York] region."
Committed to ongoing collective action with several hundred other
ministries, the Northeast Clergy Group believes to experience Renewal,
Restoration and Revival in New York City. 9/11 has shown us that no one
can do it alone! #
FEEDBACK
"Dear Jeff, I totally agree with your article ("God's Not A Christian"
FMI Report January '02). You may find this interesting.... years ago
while caught in Seattle grid-lock on my way home from work, I was talking
to the Lord as was my habit and He startled me with these words. He said,
"You know I am not an American! We do not fly the Stars and Stripes in My
throne room. Your work ethic is not My work ethic. My ways are higher and
better than yours. Why don't you try being a citizen of the Kingdom in
the here and now, then perhaps, My kingdom will come sooner." Needless to
say I was stunned. Never forgot that one. God bless and keep up the great
writing! Much love in Jesus, CANDI WEIKERT, SEATLE WASHINGTON."
"Awesome Editorial Jeff and Heather! ("God's Not A Christian" FMI Report
January '02). It is scary how much we confuse culture and Christianity -
even with the most Godly of intentions. ANDREW AND HELEN MCFARLANE,
SYDNEY AUSTRALIA."
"Dear Jeff, I enjoyed your thoughts on "God's not a 'Christian?' In
addition, I truly believe that if we Christians were truly to live in the
knowledge, understanding and wisdom of this "Title" we use...our lives
would be revolutionized by the Power of God's Spirit - the anointing! We
would ask ourselves if our lives, families, ministries and actions were
revealing, manifesting and demonstrating the POWER OF GOD'S SPIRIT at all
times. If we ventured to answer yes, WHAT A REVOLUTION IT WOULD BE!!!
Keep sharing such needful insight to the body of Christ. your friend,
PETER DE JESUS, TEXAS."
"Dear Jeff, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my e-mail, thank
you for the prayer, it certainly pertained to my life, within days of
receiving your e-mail I was called into the CEO's office they informed me
that they were pleased with my performance and contributions to the
workplace, these things had not gone un-noticed, and offered me a pay
rise, they said "how much do you want!"… I feel that this is my year.
Regards THERESE."
FEBRUARY MINISTRY AND TESTIMONIES
"Pastor Jeff, We would like to thank you for the encouraging word that
you shared last month. In view of this, my wife passed her RN exam after
she got the word from God through you. The exam was difficult. She even
worried and cried to the Lord for His divine intervention to pass it.
When you laid your hands on her and spoke the word "APPOINTED", the Holy
Spirit filled her whole being. She received joy, peace and comfort as she
waited for the result. God knows our heart and he gave us our desires. We
were also blessed by the message on your video-tape. My wife watched it
several times but the anointing is new everyday. We hope and pray that we
can again attend your conferences. RONALDO CAYCHINGCO"
" "Pastor Jeff Beacham's visit to CALVARY CATHEDRAL OF PRAISE here in
BROOKLYN NYC, was very timely and affective. Everybody was blessed and
ministered to. His message on the spiritual implications of events in
America since September 11 had a major impact on our people. The urgency
of the times we live in was highlighted and all were inspired to reach
out to the lost. Pastor Beacham's seminar to our leaders on Cell Groups
was especially inspiring and laid an excellent foundation to our church
which is gearing up to move in that direction. REV. MARCUS ROBERTS,
SENIOR PASTOR.
" "On February 21 2001, I attended a Jeff Beacham meeting at VICTORY
CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP, TROOPER PA… Being used to an Episcopal church I did
not quite know what to expect. [However] it became a turning point in my
Christian walk. We sat in the back and I said to my husband; "Do you
think this guy grabs people out of the crowd?" It was a very uplifting
service… and when it was just about over, he looked right at me and asked
me to come to the front. He told me he didn't call people out without
good reason, but that he had seen a light shining around me and knew he
had to pray for me. After those prayers, I haven't felt the same again!
For the first time I realized God saw me individually. In the car going
home that night, I said [to my husband]; "I guess you can't really hide
from God!"
On February 27, 2002, Jeff was back [at Victory Christian Fellowship],
and called me out again. He prayed over us again and blessed us… I still
can't hide when Jeff's in town. I think he will remember me next time and
we bless God for him and his ministry. Because of this very positive
experience, I am here a year later and marvel at God's work in me… In
that time, these are some of the things that have happened for God's
glory and for which I am thankful:
" I left my job and became a stay at home mum.
" I have participated in several Bible studies.
" My relationship with my husband and others has improved tremendously.
" Began listening to Christian music and enjoy Christian teachings on
video.
" Began a daily worship time with my husband and read the Bible almost
daily.
" Began lifting my hands in worship and now find it natural.
" Have received healings, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
" Three people close to me have come to the Lord, including my daughter's
father.
" I was water-baptized on February 10, 2002.
We so much appreciate Jeff's messages, ministry and obedience. MARYBETH
BARRETT."

GOD THOUGHTS
His light is fixed; it never moves. My heart is fixed on Him; let it
never stray. My sin is fixed; it has been washed away. My future is
