EDITORIAL – The Day the World Changed Forever!
INTRODUCTION
This month marks the fifth anniversary of the most significant event of this millennium. I was just pulling out of my driveway, on my way to the office the morning of September 11, 2001, when I received a frantic call from my daughter, who had just seen the first television pictures of the World Trade Center after a 'small' plane had hit one of the towers. My first reaction was that it must have been an illegal joy rider who crashed by accident. By the time I got to a TV, the second plane had hit, and it was then obvious that what was happening was a diabolical terrorist plot that would change the world forever.
FDNY
Many of our church leaders in the New York, New Jersey region lost some of their people when the towers collapsed. City Covenant Coalition leader and New York City Fire Department (FDNY) fireman, Pastor John Picarello, almost lost his life when the towers came down that day. According to Charisma magazine's September article, "God at Ground Zero" by Peter Johnson, Picarello was in the Marriot Hotel, between the twin towers, when debris from the collapsing south tower ripped through the hotel.
Saved from that first calamity, he escaped the north tower implosion 29 minutes later by diving under an abandoned truck. He was one of only two survivors from his group of 50 that day. Pastor Picarello has shared his testimony all over the United States. "God didn't spare me for nothing," he says. "There is a purpose for me that has not been accomplished."
SILVER LINING
It is an ill wind that didn't blow some good! Although church numbers in the region swelled in the months after 9/11, today they have settled back to nearly normal. However, there has been a shift that has seen a strengthening of relationships among church leaders. The days of fierce independence and competition in the city are changing. In the same Charisma article, I was quoted as saying, "Out of all the adversity, we have seen a growing cohesion among key church leaders."
IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
The forces that brought about 9/11 are entwined in a monumental battle over the soul of the world. The outcome will determine who will be worshipped - Christ or Allah! Fear (terrorism) is the tool employed. If terrorism succeeds, all choice to worship God in spirit and in truth will be stripped away, replaced by a religion that forces you to worship its god or die!
Concluding the Charisma article, I said, "I am not going to let fear stop me from what God wants me to do. My times are in the Lord's hands and not some terrorist's hands!" #

Benefit Ball in Honor of Jon-Kely Cassara to Officially Launch New Life
Giving Organization - Rob and Elayne
Cassara, pastors of New Life Fellowship, Darien, CT, endured the
tragedy of losing their young son, Jon-Kely, a little over a year
ago. City Covenant Coalition leaders, including myself, spent
several weeks assisting the church in getting through this testing
situation.
Early in August, I attended the benefit ball for the founding of a new
organization that has emerged out of the ashes. Founder of
Fashioned4Life, Elayne Cassara writes on the organization's
website, "Let me get right to the point. After recently losing our seven
year old child in a tragic accident, I began to re-evaluate my life’s
purpose, searching for greater meaning and significance.... In the face
of great personal suffering, I began an internal search for what this
next phase of my life should look like. Hence, my passion for life has
emerged.
Women have been uniquely fashioned to bring forth life and sustain it.
Our very distinct bodily composition includes the possession of a womb
and the ability to produce life-sustaining milk to support this reality.
Simply put, women have been 'Fashioned4Life.' [This new organization]
has been purposely designed by a team of compassionate women to
eradicate female hopelessness. Our vision is to network women together
and create a greater supply of life-giving resources that will ensure
affirmative results to the benefit of women and children at large....
As a female survivor of a successful single parent upbringing, I am
compelled more than ever to fight for the betterment of all women and
offer hope to our children. My personal commitment is to see to the
development of healthy, successful women who will be equipped and
mobilized to continue the rescue effort of women and children in our own
community, with eventual expansion to the uttermost parts of the earth.
To commemorate, “Fashioned 4 Life” is born out of my personal encounter
with death. The death of my precious child, whose life on earth was lost
because there was simply no one available to offer help in my time of
crisis.
My desire, as a broken woman and mother, is to work toward never seeing any other woman in that same position, without hope in the face of a life-or-death situation." http://www.fashioned4life.com

Australians, and certainly all Christians, have simply had enough of
the increasingly rapid erosion of traditional family values and
ethics in Australia. We are rightly proud of a country that has
built an enviable reputation for tolerance and quality of life and
has so much potential. But, we see Australia failing to achieve that
potential, if the very values on which it is predicated are not
upheld. We believe that our success as a nation and a community to
date, is largely due to our strong Christian heritage. However, this
heritage and our values are currently being eroded by self-serving
interest groups that have achieved unwarranted political influence,
