EDITORIAL –
'Blessed' or 'Blessing' - Which Are You?
INTRODUCTION
To bless something used to mean setting it apart,
sanctifying it, or making it holy. However, our consumer Christianity has
re-interpreted 'blessing' to mean acquiring a lot of material goods or
favor, with the emphasis on the 'what's in it for me' mentality.
OUTMODED!
This mindset is in conflict with the basic idea
of Christianity, which is not all about us but is more about being concerned with
others. Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down
one’s life for his friends," (John 14:3). He gave up everything for us
-
His glory, His Life, and His throne! But His example of self-sacrifice
seems outmoded in today's secularized self-centered society.
SPLITTING HISTORY
History records the deeds of great conquerors and
kings, but the greatest impact was made by those who made the greatest
sacrifice! Jesus is our example of this. His life split history and
humanity right down the middle, just like the veil in the temple that
was split the instant He died on the cross. "Then the sun was darkened,
and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And when Jesus had cried out
with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My
spirit.’ Having said this, He breathed His last," (Luke 23:45-46).
IN REMEMBRANCE
When all is said and done, you can just spend your
life and waste the years that God has given you here on earth, or you
can make your precious life count! There's no greater cause you can
devote yourself to than serving others by laying your life down so that
Jesus may be lifted up and made famous in the nations.
The impact of your life will be far greater when
you seek to be a blessing than seeking to be blessed! A life of
self-serving will not be remembered much beyond your own lifetime.
However, like Jesus, the more you serve others, the more you will be
remembered by the generations yet to come!
HEALTH
UPDATE...
Great News!
Late in June, I had my second six month check up
to ensure that I remain cancer-free. I had blood work for tumor markers
and a CT scan. I'm pleased to tell you that I am all clear...! There is
no evidence of any recurring cancer!
When it comes to these times every six months, I
know in my spirit that I will be alright; but I must confess, my flesh
does not want to die! So, these times can be a little jittery!
My surgeon said that if all is clear after the
next check up in January, I can go to annual tests, which will be great.
My wife, Melva, declared recently that I "will never die of cancer or
boredom!" Believe and pray with me that nothing will hinder me from
completing my assignment here on earth.

It was great to have you at our church (LifeChurch, Auckland, NZ) Feb 14th! I remember the date cause
it was my mother's birthday but also my brother Tony, his wife Kathy, and
their daughter were saved that special morning, and not only that, their
elder daughter and her boyfriend came to the evening service and were
saved there! Needless to say I was overjoyed to witness my brother and
his family's salvation and am pleased to say they continue to hunger for
the Lord; he is a new man, Jeff, baptized and so eager to know the Lord.
I bless the Lord for you brother, you certainly brought a word in
season. Be encouraged, and we are passing on the "Baton" to our next

Over the weekend of June 27th, I spoke at the Third
Annual “God and Country” Program at Gettysburg, PA hosted by U.S.
Christian Commission. This organization is an outreach to this community
where the Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1–3, 1863, with about
50,000 casualties in the 3-day battle. That November, President
Lincoln used the dedication ceremony for the Gettysburg National
Cemetery to honor the fallen and redefine the purpose of the war in his
historic Gettysburg Address.
The present day U. S. Christian Commission brings
to life the greatest untold stories of the American Civil War. Stories
of courage, duty and selfless devotion to a cause greater than the blue
or the gray. These heroes served on the battlefields without rifle or
bayonet, but with Bibles, bandages and the love of Christ.
A special guest at this series of meetings was 86-year-old Col. Glenn Frazier, a survivor of the Bataan Death March, when
the Japanese invaded the Philippines in World War II. He testified how
the only way he could overcome his hate for the enemy was to turn to God
and ask for His help.

The coronal loops "vibrate from side to side
because they are 'plucked' rather like guitar strings by the blast
waves from explosions on the surface of the sun."

the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,

(United Kingdom)—The Telegraph U.K. reports that astronomers at the
University of Sheffield have managed to record for the first time
the eerie musical harmonies produced by the magnetic field in the
outer atmosphere of the sun which vibrate like strings on a musical
instrument.
According to the report, scientists used satellite images of these
magnetic loops coiling away from the sun's outer atmosphere, and
then recreated the sound by turning the visible vibrations into noises and speeding up
the frequency so it is audible to the human ear. In some cases the
vibrations reportedly behaved more like sound waves as traveling

Professor Robertus von Fáy-Siebenbürgen, head of the solar physics
research group at Sheffield University, said: "It was strangely
beautiful and exciting to hear these noises for the first time from
such a large and powerful source. It is a sort of music as it has
harmonics. It is providing us with a new way of learning about the
sun and giving us a new insight into the physics that goes on at in
the sun's outer layers where temperatures reach millions of
degrees."
The report also noted that the coronal loops "vibrate from side to
