EDITORIAL – Desert of Discouragement or Conduit of Encouragement?

INTRODUCTION

You will occasionally be remembered for your admonishments. You may be talked about for your victories. Your exploits might even make a history book. But you will never be forgotten by those whom you encouraged!

Discouragement never has to be pursued! It is everywhere and it knows where to find you; it knows your address! Sometimes God allows it in our lives to bring us to a place of greater reliance on Him, but most of the time, it comes from 'below' and would like to drag you way down 'below!'

Encouragement lifts us up, takes us to the next level and keeps us looking forward. It welcomes an uncertain future, not with fear, dread or apprehension, but with an anticipation and excitement of the adventure ahead.

Hope sits in the center of any form of encouragement. They go hand in hand. We cannot endure the harsh realities of this world without hope. It washes away the griminess of despair, giving us a reason to push on, even in the most smothering of circumstances. Hope graduates as faith when we still believe, even though we can't see. It's what we've heard about and believed is around the corner, over the next hill or far away, beyond our natural sight.

God's Word encourages us to sow friendliness if we want to reap a harvest of friends. It's no different with encouragement. If you want to be encouraged, you must sow it into other's lives.

I have this little potted plant on my kitchen windowsill. It is blooming and growing! However, it doesn't take much effort on my part to encourage it. All I do is take about 10 seconds a couple of times a week to water it. You might say I am a conduit of encouragement to the plant. Likewise, it does not take much to encourage people. A kind word here and there might just make all the difference in them making it... or not!

It is difficult for even the hardiest of souls to be all they should be in Christ where they are only tolerated. This kind of environment can be a desert of discouragement, where you have to become adept at 'encouraging yourself in the Lord.' Let us create a culture of celebration in our communities where, despite our own and others' shortcomings, we still show appreciation to those God has given us. People flourish in that kind of environment.

So, let me encourage you to be a conduit of encouragement to all you meet today, and every day! They will never forget you for it!

FEEDBACK... "A Grand Scale to Every Heart"

“It is always a treat when Jeff Beacham comes to our church (see more below) because we get to hear the message of Christ in a fresh and exciting way, and when he came to Victory August 15th, he didn’t disappoint. Rev. Beacham possesses the innate ability to personalize a grand scale theme to every heart in the room. His preaching was vivid and his message was inspiring! “Because of the Cause” was one of the most memorable sermons I’ve ever experienced, one that blessed my heart and reminded me that little is much in God’s hands. Together, we CAN make a difference.” Carla Ezell, Member, Victory Christian Fellowship, Audubon, PA

The photo on the right, shows Pastor Andr Van Zyl laying hands on a former Muslim wearing a 'Tallit' (Jewish prayer shawl) at the Upper Room Gathering in Dallas, TX. A scene like this is only possible because of Christ!

"Jeff Beacham brought a compelling message to Victory for our time, 'Because of the Cause,' in a dynamic multimedia format, which grabbed our attention as it challenged us toward greater vision. We were not simply inspired, we were challenged and empowered to move beyond ourselves toward 'the cause of Christ.' The relevance of the message spanned generations, targeting Generation Y with a sense of intense purpose, and calling Baby Boomers to pass the baton. The call was answered by a trans-generational flood to the altar, young and old alike, rising to 'the cause of Christ.'" Dan Cross, Executive Pastor, Victory Christian Fellowship, Audubon, PA

Sunday, August 22nd Service - "The two things that stood out for me at Sunday’s service were appreciation of each moment of life and the power of relational evangelism. After hearing the powerful testimony of Jeff Beacham’s confrontation with death, I was reminded of the things which were most important in life. This included family and most importantly the Lord’s purpose for our life. It really helped me to appreciated my good health and I thank the Lord for it. Jeff's drive to keep moving forward for Christ, despite the challenges, also told the story of a true believer. When compared to our day to day challenges, this was a tremendous challenge, and through God’s strength, he survived. Spiritually first, then physically.

Then there was relational evangelism which detailed the necessary call of sharing Christ with others. After all, it was a friend’s invitation to Hope Center that led to my decision to live for Jesus Christ. It was also a very strengthening message in that it spoke of God’s love despite the challenges. In the face of a life-threatening disease, Jeff Beacham survived to speak of His love, grace, provision and most importantly, His purpose." Renny Jagdeo, Hope Center, Jersey City, NJ

"Hey Uncle Jeff, thanks for the message that we all received today from church [New Beginnings Community Church, Darien, CT] and God really spoke to us through you and I got a lot out of it. And I will stand firm and stay strong for Jesus as I am chasing my dream God put in my heart. Thanks and God Bless You!" Yvenson C. Dupervil

"Hey Uncle Jeff, great to have you at our church today, hope to see you again soon, great message, glad I crossed the line for Christ. :)" Walterson Tameirão Martins Filho, New Beginnings Community Church, Darien, CT

"What struck the hearts of our congregation after hearing 'Because of the Cause' was the statement 'If you don’t have a cause worth dying for, you don’t have a life worth living for....' And 'the truth divides!' The sermon was not sugar-coated and gave the reality of what following Christ really means and what discipleship truly is. 'Because of the Cause' was definitely a reality check. God instilled a revised sense of purpose and destiny in each person’s life moving us to step out and believe in a cause greater than ourselves. [Jeff Beacham's message] increased, deposited and renewed faith and hope in God. Spiritually, there was an awakening to purpose that we can no longer put the Kingdom off, and we must ask ourselves, 'What are we doing NOW?' Life is empty without purpose, and there is no purpose without Christ." Beth Heslin, Executive Associate, New Beginnings Community Church, Darien, CT

Amazing Surprise at Birth: Blonde, White Baby From Two Black Parents - Aimee Herd (www.breakingchristiannews.com)

(United Kingdom) - A Nigerian couple, living in Woolwich, South London had quite a surprise as their third child was born this week. Both Ben and Angela Ihegboro are black, as are their first two children, but baby number three was born with clear blue eyes and long, curly blonde hair. (Photo: The Sun)

Nmachi and her familyThe baby has reportedly baffled genetic experts, since she has been declared not to be albino, and neither Ben nor Angela are aware of any mixed-race ancestry in their lineage.

In addition, Ben assures, "My wife is true to me. Even if she hadn't been, the baby still wouldn't look like that."

What was the initial shock like? "We both just sat there after the birth staring at her for ages—not saying anything," remarked Ben.

Mum, Angela says, "She's beautiful—a miracle baby."

And, her name is fitting as well: "Nmachi." Which is Nigerian for "beauty of God." According to Ben, they had decided on her name before she was even born.

FOUR ESSENTIAL MESSAGES AVAILABLE THROUGH FMI...

All Now Available to Download on MP3

NEW! Turning the Hand of God

Can we turn curses into blessings? Nineveh’s repentance turned God’s hand - He’ll turn curses into blessing; He’ll turn your life around; He’ll turn your city around. Learn how to change the worst circumstances that life could throw at you into great opportunities for victory!

Learn how God is working for victory right now!

NEW! The Chosen
Most are invited, but only some are picked out of the crowd. Is it our free will or God's election? God calls everyone and gives them the power to respond - but to be chosen, we must respond to the call, using the power God gave us to take on the character of Christ.

Learn how to know what you were chosen for!

Multiplication In Our Generation, Part Two
Once we are mature as Christians and able to reproduce spiritually, the Father is looking for the fruit that He expects us to present to Him. Pursuit of our own spiritual growth at the expense of evangelism brings glory only to us, when much fruit of souls brings glory to the Father, and all our prayers are answered!

Passing the Baton

Half of the world's 6.5 billion inhabitants are under 20 years old.... A global youth culture is forming, and Christians must learn to adjust to it. Some are already claiming that the church must be completely re-invented. The newly-forming youth culture depends less on scientific and rational thought and tends more toward seeking to experience spiritual things personally. Those seeking spiritual experiences will be disappointed by a church offering only information about God.
