EDITORIAL – Honoring the Anointing in a Visual Age

INTRODUCTION

I was once ministering at a church where the pastor seemed to have difficulty with the way I was presenting my message. In recent times, I have developed a whole series of audio/visual accompaniments to my preaching in order to relate the Gospel in a more relevant way to a generation that receives all their information in a visual way.

THE NEW LITERACY

In fact, there is a new literacy in our online media age where the saying "one picture is worth a thousand words" is a true reality! Having said that, there will never be any substitute for the anointing and the power of the declared Word of God. However, that 'Word' can be declared visually as well as vocally, and even though the message is non-negotiable, the packaging must be appropriate to the generation we are trying to reach.

JUST THE OPPOSITE

It was difficult to minister in that church, even though many people later testified that it was life changing. For me, it was like wading through wet concrete! When I got up to preach, I had to build my own anointing from scratch - not always the best way to accomplish God's purpose for that service.

Shortly afterward, I ministered in a church that seemed to be just the opposite! I had known the pastor since we relocated to America in 1999 and had enjoyed a very fruitful relationship with him over the years, which included a mutual respect and honor for each other. This pastor, even though in his mid-sixties, was open to new innovations and welcomed my presentation, trusting me to bring a message for his church in whatever way the Lord had laid on my heart.

BELIEVING YOUR OWN PUBLICITY

Having been in the music industry for many years prior to becoming a Christian, I am more than familiar with the question of 'ego' arising from believing your own publicity. I was never prey to the lies that publicity agents would broadcast to the world about you, in order to build you up larger than life to be a 'rock idol'! I'm saying that to assure you that now, with my identity firmly in Christ, I don't need to have my ego stroked!

However, this older pastor understood the principle of how honor releases the anointing. In his introduction of me, he spent time filling in his people on the history we had together and encouraged them to welcome and honor me as a gift sent with a message for that house.

HEAVEN ON EARTH

When I began ministering, it was as if heaven had come down to earth! The anointing flowed and God's Word sank deep into the church's heart. With hardly any prompting, the whole congregation answered the altar call. After the service, many people came to me testifying how there had been a deep shift in their hearts.

HONOR RELEASES THE ANOINTING

Even Jesus struggled with the problem of familiarity breeding contempt when He could not do a lot of miracles in His own hometown of Nazareth, because He was considered just a 'local boy.'

Honor releases the anointing. It's the anointing that breaks the yoke of bondage. Let us encourage a culture of true honor in the Kingdom, so that God's will might be accomplished more effectively.

FEEDBACK... 'Before Your Mother's Womb, I Knew You!'

"Dear Brother Beacham: You do not know me but the opportunity to send you this message seemed timely and appropriate. I hope you find it so.... A little more than 10 years ago you called me out at the end of a service to pray and prophesy over the child in my womb. This past Sunday - a day before her 10th birthday - she was called out by visiting prophets who prayed and prophesied God's plans and purposes over her.... I saw you in my list of friend suggestions this morning and I took it as a sign that I should just let you know how the Lord has used you to keep us focused and faithful. May the Lord pour into you as you have poured into His people. Sincerely, Sheila Greco, Wyckoff, NJ"

"Hello Jeff, my Father in Heaven showed me that if you trust Him, everything will be perfect, because He is God and He loves us, no matter what! That's why He gave Jesus to us and we can trust Him always. Well, my life now has a chance to be complete, but I realized on Sunday, that we can only have all things if we obey His will. So, just trust our Father in Heaven and He will make all things great! Thank you my Lord and my Savior, Your Precious Son, Jesus, Amen!" Caterina Laresca, Oasis Christian Center, Staten Island, NY"

"God bless, you were at Oasis Christian Center [Staten Island, NYC] on Sunday, I was so blessed.... You totally confirmed some things for me. To God be the Glory. Olga Robinson, Brooklyn, NY"

"Hi Pastor Jeff Beacham, its Vinny and Keiti. It was a blessing to see you at the Oasis. The message that you gave on Sunday was awesome! The week before our home group went out to feed the homeless. My husband and I used to do this before in our old church. Praise God that the LORD healed you in a mighty way. We thank God for what He's doing in your life. You are a testimony to the world. I invited a friend on the Sunday you came, and my daughter invited a friend too. They loved the message that you gave and they are coming back, to visit Oasis this coming Sunday. We thank God for using you. God Bless, Vinny and Keiti, Staten Island, NY"

Pastors Anthony & Pat Ventola"We have known Jeff for quite some time, and it was refreshing to have him back at Agape Worship Center to share the word this last Sunday. We can truly say that the Hand of God moved in the service and almost the entire congregation came forth to renew their commitment to the lord. Following this commitment we saw an much greater attendance in our mid-week service.

Since Jeff’s visit, we have seen an increase and hunger, especially in the younger generation. The Wednesday service following Jeff’s visit, Pastor Anthony was led to have an altar call prior to sharing the word, in the middle of worship. The result was we saw eleven young people, averaging the ages 16 -35 give their lives to the lord. His visit left a powerful impartation into all of our lives." Pastor Anthony and Pat Ventola, Agape Worship Center, Bloomfield, NJ

Willpower Is Unlimited, Say Researchers, That Is, If You Believe - Teresa Neumann-Commentary (http://www.breakingchristiannews.com)

"Belief in willpower as a non-limited resource makes people stronger in their ability to work through challenges."

(Stanford, CA) — A recent study from Stanford University has challenged the theory that taking a break from work, or stress, or any other physical or mentally fatiguing activity, is essential for recharging one's battery.

Defining willpower as "the ability to resist temptation and stay focused on a demanding task," researchers are now saying that's not the case. Instead, they say "a person's mindset and personal beliefs about willpower determine how long and how well they'll be able to work on a tough mental exercise."

"If you think of willpower as something that's biologically limited, you're more likely to be tired when you perform a difficult task," said Veronika Job, the paper's lead author. "But if you think of willpower as something that is not easily depleted, you can go on and on."

"The theory that willpower is a limited resource is interesting, but it has had unintended consequences," said Carol Dweck, a Stanford psychology professor. "Students who may already have trouble studying are being told that their powers of concentration are limited and they need to take frequent breaks. But a belief in willpower as a non-limited resource makes people stronger in their ability to work through challenges."

Galatians 5:22 tells us that self-control [aka: willpower] is a fruit, or by-product, of the Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit as our Source of power, we do, indeed, have "non-limited" access to self-control.

So, the next time you find yourself thinking, "I just can't go on anymore. I can't do it," remember who the Source of our energy and power is. And, yes, I'm preaching to myself!

FOUR ESSENTIAL MESSAGES AVAILABLE THROUGH FMI...

All Now Available to Download on MP3

NEW! Turning the Hand of God

Can we turn curses into blessings? Nineveh’s repentance turned God’s hand - He’ll turn curses into blessing; He’ll turn your life around; He’ll turn your city around. Learn how to change the worst circumstances that life could throw at you into great opportunities for victory!

Learn how God is working for victory right now!

NEW! The Chosen
Most are invited, but only some are picked out of the crowd. Is it our free will or God's election? God calls everyone and gives them the power to respond - but to be chosen, we must respond to the call, using the power God gave us to take on the character of Christ.

Learn how to know what you were chosen for!

Multiplication In Our Generation, Part Two
Once we are mature as Christians and able to reproduce spiritually, the Father is looking for the fruit that He expects us to present to Him. Pursuit of our own spiritual growth at the expense of evangelism brings glory only to us, when much fruit of souls brings glory to the Father, and all our prayers are answered!

Passing the Baton

Half of the world's 6.5 billion inhabitants are under 20 years old.... A global youth culture is forming, and Christians must learn to adjust to it. Some are already claiming that the church must be completely re-invented. The newly-forming youth culture depends less on scientific and rational thought and tends more toward seeking to experience spiritual things personally. Those seeking spiritual experiences will be disappointed by a church offering only information about God.
