If you belong to the Body of Christ, you are a part of a living organism whose Head is the highest authority in all existence, seen and unseen!
Paul, the apostle, affirms this in the Book of Colossians, probably more than anywhere else. He talks about Christ being the visible representation of God, who can't be seen. He also says, "He is the first-born Son, superior to all creation. Everything was created by Him, everything in heaven and on earth, everything seen and unseen, including all forces and powers, and all rulers and authorities. All things were created by God's Son, and everything was made for Him." (Col. 1:15-16 CEV).
JEKYLL AND HYDE There are many good and great things in the human experience that typify the highest aspirations of compassion, benevolence, selflessness, philanthropy and self-sacrifice. These things fly in the face of our darker nature and are mostly inspired, although not exclusively, because of Christian-Judeo sentiments.
Many devote their lives to the pursuit of humanitarian benefits, for which we should all be very grateful. However, as Chris Tomlin's song says: "Better is one day in Your house.... than thousands elsewhere!"
Although today's heroes are more often media fabrications than authentic 'quiet achievers,' where our image-driven culture prizes everyone's chance at 'fifteen minutes of fame,' there's always an opportunity to become a real 'hero' in another Kingdom!
RAGS TO RICHES Again, in Colossians 1:21-22, Paul tells us what it took to get us unearned membership! "You used to be far from God. Your thoughts made you His enemies, and you did evil things. But His Son became a human and died. So God made peace with you, and now He lets you stand in His presence as people who are holy and faultless and innocent."
Even though membership in His Kingdom is already paid for with a terrible price, in verse 23 we are exhorted to "...stay deeply rooted and firm in your faith. You must not give up the hope you received when you heard the good news."
ACTIVATE! So we must fulfill our part by becoming an active member of His Body, and when we do, we have a chance to complete the highest assignment a human can have - to serve the King above all kings! What a privilege!
