'Robbin in the Hood!'

Jeff Beacham

INTRODUCTION

The other night I went to see Justin Timberlake's new movie "In Time." Never underestimating the power of popular culture expressed through movies, I wanted to see what the latest message to an emerging generation would be via Timberlake's fame. Despite the profound notion of buying time to live, which the central plot of the movie revolves around, the underlying message was one of income redistribution and pandering to the 'Occupy Wall Street' crowd.

'ROBBIN' HOOD!'

Wealthy people were portrayed as being evil, having acquired their riches through thievery at the expense of the masses. Timberlake was a less than perfect 'Robin Hood' character, robbing the rich to give to the poor. This plot line does nothing to bolster the spirit of equal opportunity and reward for risk and effort that distinguishes America from many of its European cousins, who have embraced a form of socialist democracy that promotes a culture of entitlement devoid of merit!

SWALLOW THIS!

It's difficult to see how this movie would not influence a whole generation to be more receptive to the current political agenda to conform America more to the regimen of most of western Europe!

THE GREAT DIVIDE

The drive of human civilization is to acquire as much as this world has to offer while we are here! To accomplish this, capitalism utilizes greed while socialism employs fear. Both accomplish the same end! However, whether communist or capitalist, there will always be a divide between the rich and the poor.

'HE'S GOT THE WHOLE WORLD....'

The Kingdom of God marches to the beat of a different drum! It encourages us to possess nothing that will bind us to this world. However, we are exhorted at every step to be good stewards of everything He has given us - and that is everything! It all belongs to Him. He holds the whole universe in His hands, and the Lord gives and He takes away!

NO TIME TO WASTE!

We all have the same amount of time, both the wealthy and the poor! It's what we do with it that counts. We can waste it all on acquiring material things that will be left behind when we pass on, or we can invest our lives and all the grace that God gives us into those who will take up the stewardship of the future! If time waits for no one, don't waste a minute!
