The War of the Worlds

INTRODUCTION

In 1938, the Martians 'landed' in New Jersey! Orson Welles and his Mercury Theater ensemble put on one of the world's great hoaxes when they broadcast a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds the night before Halloween, October 30th. Twelve million people heard the fake 'live news' broadcast, and many were convinced an attack from Mars was underway. The Martian landings were centered around the little-known, but real, town of Grovers Mill near Princeton, New Jersey.

In today's world, where science fiction is a part of everyday life through movies, TV, and the internet, it's hard to imagine what could drive a nation to mass hysteria so easily. However, back in the thirties, an invasion from outer space was still a relatively new concept. But presently there is a very real invasion going on from another world, which is not a hoax!

ALL THE 'HELLMARKS' OF A SCIFI PLOT

This invasion has all the 'hellmarks' of a science fiction plot, such as invaders coming from another dimension! In this case, from the spiritual to the natural. American founding father, Samuel Adams put it this way, “A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous, they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue, they will then be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.” Over the last forty years, 'virtue' has been steadily eroding in this country. Sixties radicalism has become mainstream today and, in some cases, policy in Washington, D.C.

EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL INVADERS

America is presently under attack from within and without! Abroad, the war on terrorism is not against a particular nation, but against a belief system inspired by a spiritual power that glorifies force and death. At home, a portion of our own people believe that the reason for Jihadist extremism is inequality of resources between western and middle eastern nations. This is a socialist idea that misguidedly thinks if everyone had equal resources, terrorism would go away. This appeasement-like policy plays right into the hands of those who would like to replace western democracy with a new 'dark age' of sharia law, where any choice will be removed from your belief system.

HOLDING THE LINE!

On this Fourth of July weekend, celebrating the 231st birthday of the Untied States, America stands as one of the last bastions of sovereignty in the world. Even so, there are tremendous pressures to dismantle the US's southern and northern borders. At the same time, patriotism has been eroded and is being replaced by globalism for the rest of the world.

While America stands pretty much alone in the global war against terror, and is even divided on this issue at home, the bottom line is, the future of democracy and the western way of life depends upon a strong United States. However, the strength of this nation does not depend on its military forces, powerful as they may be, or on its economy, as great as that may still be. America's greatness cannot be separated from the goodness of its people, and that goodness depends upon the strength of the Church.

CHRIST-LIKE REVOLUTIONARIES

Independence Day marks the extraordinary courage of a handful of revolutionaries who stood against the most powerful empire on the earth at that time. My prayer is that we may see some of that revolutionary courage rise up in the Church of this nation, to stand against the invasion of the antichrist spirit that would strip us of our future. Jesus was a revolutionary! Becoming Christ-like should mean we take on some of that revolutionary character. The war of the worlds will be won more from the pulpit than the war room! #
