The Spent Bullet

Jeff Beacham

INTRODUCTION

H. G. Wells wrote a 'revolutionary' book over 100 years ago about a time traveler who invented a machine that would take him forward and backward in time. His book, 'The Time Machine' was a pioneering work that has been the inspiration for thousands of science fiction stories, movies, TV shows and video games ever since.

MAKING WRONGS RIGHT

Our fascination with the future lies in our fear of what might or might not happen, and our hopes and dreams for a better world. Our fascination with the past lies with our desire to undo our regrets accumulated from past mistakes, and the wish to make wrongs right.

The past is like a spent bullet! Once it has been fired, it cannot be put back in the gun and fired again a second time, in the hope that the second shot will hit the target that was missed the first time.

LIKE A PEBBLE IN A POND

Much as we would like to fantasize, the past cannot be changed! The consequences of our actions and reactions always progress forward, just like a pebble dropped in a pond. The resulting rings in the water always move outward, not inward.

OUR ALLOTTED DAYS

We all make mistakes and an old mentor of mine used to frequently say, 'He who never made a mistake, never made anything!' However, as I recently See full size imagewrote, 'Wisdom is understanding and acting upon what is said by those who've already been where you're going. It saves lost time from learning the hard way and backtracking to cover unnecessary mistakes, which gives you a better chance of fulfilling your destiny during your allotted days.'

Our 'allotted days' lie ahead in an unwritten landscape and even though we can make our own plans for the future, the 'Lord guides our steps....'

Chose your path wisely and write a bright future with the pen of destiny in your hand, because your destiny is your destination!
